Roman Marching camp

In the vicinity of Ermelo, traces of a Roman army camp have been found. A complete legion of 5000 men stayed here for a few days, then left again. Their presence is a great mystery, because the camp is located 35 km north of the former border. Inside the camp, hundreds of tents stood in neat rows. Each tent had room for eight men, who had to rely on each other and also cook together. The contours of the camp can still be seen. This is the only known Roman Mars camp in the Netherlands.
